    About Woodbury, NJ

Woodbury is a city located in Gloucester County, New Jersey, and serves as the county seat. Woodbury was originally formed as a borough in 1854 from portions of Deptford Township. Woodbury was reorganized as a city in 1871. The area encompassing present-day Woodbury was settled by English Quakers in 1683; they were led by Henry Wood, who lent his name to the present-day city. In 2000, Woodbury was twinned with the Borough of Bury, England. Woodbury was the first city in the country to mandate recycling in 1980, led by then-councilman Donald Sanderson, who later toured the country to speak about recycling in other towns and cities.

Frequently Asked Questions about Woodbury, NJ Criminal Defense

FAQ: Should I accept a plea bargain offered by the prosecution?

When the prosecution has a seemingly strong case against you, a plea bargain may seem like the best option for resolving your criminal charges. However, before you decide to accept a plea bargain, you should consult with a criminal defense attorney, who can give you an experienced, knowledgeable view of the strengths and weaknesses of the prosecution’s case. An attorney can conduct an independent investigation into your case and uncover evidence that might be able to be used in your defense. An attorney can also negotiate with the prosecution to possibly get you an even more favorable plea agreement than you originally received.

FAQ: What happens if my case goes to trial?

If your criminal case makes it all the way to trial, you will begin trial with the jury selection process (if you have exercised your right to a jury trial), in which potential jurors are interviewed and excluded if they have any conflicts of interests, biases, or inability to be fair and impartial. After the jury is selected, the parties will give opening statements, followed by the parties’ cases-in-chief, starting with the prosecution. After each side has presented its evidence and witnesses, both sides will give closing statements. The jury will then be instructed by the court on the relevant law, and then will deliberate the evidence to render a verdict.
