    About Willingboro, NJ

Willingboro is a township located in Burlington County, New Jersey. Originally established as the “Constabulary of Wellingborrow” in 1688 as one of the original nine municipalities of Burlington County, Willingboro’s name derives from the community of Wellingborough in England, the hometown of one of Willingboro’s original settlers, Thomas Ollive. Willingboro was incorporated as a township in 1798 as one of New Jersey’s first 104 townships. Portions of Willingboro were alter taken to form Beverly in 1850 and Beverly Township (now known as Delanco Township) in 1859. In the 1950s, Willingboro was selected to be developer Levitt & Sons’s largest “Levittown” residential development. As a result, Willingboro changed its name to Levittown in 1959, but changed back to Willingboro in 1963 to avoid confusion with nearby Levittown, Pennsylvania.

Frequently Asked Questions about Willingboro, NJ Criminal Defense

FAQ: Can I represent myself in my criminal case?

You do have a constitutional right to represent yourself in your criminal case. However, in all cases it is better to have the legal assistance of a skilled criminal defense lawyer. An attorney will have a deep knowledge of the criminal law that most people lack, along with experience in the criminal justice system. An attorney will have the expertise to conduct an investigation into your case to uncover evidence that can be used in your defense. An attorney can also negotiate with the prosecution to have your charges reduced or even dismissed. In all cases, an experienced criminal defense lawyer can provide you with impartial, well-reasoned advice about your options and what may be the best path forward in your case.

FAQ: Can I get a public defender?

You may be eligible to have a public defender appointed to you in your criminal case if you can submit financial information that shows that you lack the resources to hire a private criminal defense attorney. However, if you can afford to hire a private lawyer, it is always advisable to do so. Public defenders are unfortunately in most cases underfunded and overworked. Although a public defender will do the best job he or she can in your case, he or she simply may not have the time or resources to devote to your case that a private attorney can.
