    About Winslow Township, NJ

Winslow Township is located in Camden County, New Jersey. The township was incorporated in 1845 from portions of Gloucester Township; in 1950, Winslow Township annexed a portion of Monroe Township in Gloucester County. The largest municipality in Camden County, Winslow Township was named for Edward Winslow Coffin, the son of 19th century glass factory owner William Coffin, who built the Winslow Glass Works in the middle of a thick pine forest he had purchased, located in present-day Winslow Township. In the 19th century, the township was known for its glass industry. Although the glass industry faded by the turn of the 20th century, after World War II Winslow Township began to experience a revitalization following the completion of an interchange with the Atlantic City Expressway that facilitated suburban development.

Frequently Asked Questions about Criminal Defense in Winslow Township, NJ

FAQ: If I am convicted of a crime in New Jersey will my convictions from other states count against my prior criminal record?

Yes. Authorities in New Jersey have access to your criminal record in every other state where you have compiled a record. Under New Jersey law, the courts can use your out-of-state criminal record as a basis to designate you as a second or subsequent offender under many criminal statutes, which means that you may face enhanced criminal penalties including longer prison or probation sentences or heavier fines.

FAQ: If the person who called the police doesn’t want to press charges, will my case be dropped?

Not necessarily. Criminal charges are prosecuted by the government, not by an individual person. The fact that the alleged victim or a complaining witness does not want to testify or otherwise participate may convince the prosecutor to dismiss your case, especially when the victim’s or witness’s testimony is the only evidence or the strongest evidence of your guilt. But the state may decide to continue your prosecution if it has other strong evidence of your guilt, such as physical evidence or photographic or video evidence. Prosecutor’s offices often decline to dismiss prosecutions, despite victim or witness reluctance, in crimes involving domestic or sexual violence.
