FAQ: What happens if I have a prior conviction on my record?

If you are convicted of a crime and have prior convictions on your record, the trial court may be entitled or may even be required to take your prior criminal record into account when determining the severity of your sentence. State and federal law permits or requires courts to increase the severity of sentences depending on the number or type of offenses on a defendant’s prior record. It is important that you have knowledgeable legal representation on your side to help you avoid new convictions or to ensure that you prior record is correctly calculated.

FAQ: Do I need an attorney if I am merely being investigated for a crime?

Yes. Even if you are merely the target of or a person of interest in a criminal investigation, it is critical that you contact a criminal defense attorney who can immediately begin conducting an investigation on your own behalf.
