    About Medford, NJ

Medford is a township located in Burlington County, New Jersey. Medford was incorporated in 1847 by the act of the state legislature, following a referendum, from portions of Evesham Township. Portions of Medford were later taken to form Shamong Township in 1852, Lumberton Township in 1860, and Medford Lakes in 1939. The area of present-day Medford was originally settled in the 1670s by members of the Braddock, Prickett, Stratton, Branin, and Wilkins families, descendants of whom continue to live in the area today. Many of the roads and buildings built during the Colonial period are still in existence today. Medford, originally referred to as “Upper Evesham”, got its name from developer Mark Reeve, who named it for Medford, Massachusetts. During the 19th century, Medford developed a bustling glass manufacturing industry; when the glass factories shut down, Medford became a more rural place to live for families moving from Camden city and Philadelphia.

Frequently Asked Questions about Medford, NJ Criminal Defense

FAQ: Will I have to go to trial if I am arrested?

Not necessarily. The reality is that most criminal cases are resolved long before they go to trial. In some cases, our criminal defense attorneys may uncover evidence through our own independent investigation of your case that undercuts the prosecution’s evidence and case. When that happens, it may be possible to obtain a dismissal of your charges. In other cases, it may be possible to negotiate a plea agreement, in which you plead guilty in exchange for receiving a lesser sentence than you would have received if you were convicted at trial.

FAQ: Is it better to accept a plea bargain over going to trial?

Our criminal defense attorneys never pressure clients to accept a plea deal just to resolve a case. Instead, we only advise clients to take a plea bargain when it represents the best possible outcome under the circumstances of your case. In some cases, we uncover evidence through our own investigation that demonstrates weaknesses in the prosecution’s case. If we are able to develop a strong legal defense, you may decide that it is better to contest your charges at trial rather than simply accept a plea bargain.
