About Moorestown, NJ

Moorestown is a township located in Burlington County, New Jersey. An eastern suburb of Philadelphia, Moorestown was incorporated in 1922 from portions of Chester Township (now Maple Shade Township). The area of present-day Moorestown was first settled by European settlers in 1682. The area continued to be developed by Quaker settlers. Moorestown is named for Thomas Moore, a settler to the area in 1722 who constructed a hotel; some sources also attribute the township’s name to poet Thomas Moore. In 2005, Money magazine ranked Moorestown as one of the best 100 places to live in America, citing its community feeling, availability of jobs within commuting distance, excellent schools, low crime rate, affordable housing, and cultural and urban amenities. Moorestown is also home to Villa Collina, the largest private residence in New Jersey

Frequently Asked Questions about Moorestown, NJ Criminal Defense

FAQ: Should I hire a criminal defense attorney for my case?

Although you have the right to represent yourself in your criminal trial, it is not advisable to do so. An experienced criminal defense attorney will have a much deeper knowledge of the criminal law, along with the skill and expertise in defending clients against criminal charges. A criminal defense lawyer can evaluate the relative strength of your case versus the prosecution’s case and advise you as to which options may give you the best possible outcome in your criminal case. Having the assistance of an attorney means that you will always have neutral, well-reasoned advice on how to proceed in your criminal trial.

FAQ: Can I change criminal defense attorneys?

In most cases, you have the right to change criminal defense lawyers if you are dissatisfied with your current attorney. The process of changing attorneys is as simple as your new attorney filing a notice of substitution with the court. However, bear in mind that in certain circumstances the court may not allow you to change attorneys, such as if your new attorney has a conflict of interest in the case (such as representing a co-defendant or witness with interests opposed to yours) or if you are very close to trial (the court may perceive a late change as an effort to delay or avoid trial).
